Research Framework
The research framework of Fold Interference is structured around key concepts: Fold, Compression, Threshold, and Interference. Drawing from Multi-Layered Body, the body is understood as a stratified topology in which anatomical, perceptual, temporal, and imaginal layers coexist. Rather than producing fixed forms, the practice investigates how structural density emerges from sustained pressure and delayed release. Diagrams and spatial models accompany physical experimentation to articulate this layered ontology.
Formats
Fold Interference proposes modular formats adaptable to institutional, festival, and independent contexts. Exhibition Format presents drawings and spatial installations as traces of pressure and structural tension. Lecture Performance Format integrates theoretical articulation and live demonstration. Workshop Format offers intensive embodied research sessions focused on deceleration, compression, and controlled instability. old Interference was founded as an artistic research platform dedicated to rethinking the ontology of the body. Conan Amok is a choreographer / artist / body researcher who proposes Multi Layered Body, a practice that redefines the body as a field of forces. From 2008, he spent eleven years as a member of the butoh company Dairakudakan, studying under Akaji Maro. Beyond his roles as dancer and choreographer, heserved as Maro’s understudy, rigorously embodying and sedimenting the methodologies of butoh into his physical being before subjecting them to deconstruction. Grounded in training and creation within performing arts, he has developed a distinct bodily theory by crossing the contexts of dance, Butoh, and art. From an early stage, he questioned the conventional notion of the body as a medium of expression and
shifted toward understanding it as a generative structure where gravity, pressure, friction, and torque intersect. Through long-term artistic practice and research, he systematized a theory in which multiple layer, muscular, neural, mnemonic, spatial̶interfere to generate intensity, establishing Multi Layered Body as both method and philosophy. His works eliminate narrative structure and instead expose processes such as accumulation of compression, maintenance of threshold, phase transition, colapse, and re-sedimentation. While passing through the lineage of Butoh, his practice does not rely on stylistic codes and rejects cultural exoticism, aiming instead toward a contemporary ontology of the body. Through solo performances, research laboratories, and lecture-demonstrations, he articulates a continuous dialogue between theory and physical practice. His focus is not on presenting finished forms but on designing the conditions of a body positioned between stability and colapse. Rather than presenting a body that speaks philosophy, he seeks to present a body in which philosophy physically occurs, pursuing international development with particular focus on Europe.
